Training/Lessons/Summer Camp

Join the Double L Ranch for Summer Riding Camps

Experience the fun and excitement of learning to ride a horse in your choice of English, Western or Dressage disciplines.

 `

Each camp will consist of five (5) full days of horse fun, games and prizes.  Have your son or daughter experience the thrill of riding a world champion horse each day.  The fun begins at 8:30am and continues until 5:00pm.  Each day students will participate in riding lessons, as well as learn to groom and tack their own horse.  Students will complete their personal horse journal that includes pictures of them riding, interesting facts about horses and self created horse art. By the end of the week, students will be able to play games on their horses, receive their rider's certificate and enjoy a pizza party to celebrate their achievements.

`

Our program instructor, Lisa Ann Yost, has an equine science degree and is also NAHRA (North American Handicapped Riding Association) certified to teach children with special needs. With numerous world and national titles and 19 years of riding experience, your child will receive personal attention from an expert in the riding industry.  Assistant instructors are state certified teachers.  Our staff is certified in First Aid and CPR.

`

Each child will need to bring a sack lunch Monday through Thursday. On Friday, pizza will be served.  Soft drinks and water are provided for lunch each day. Students should dress for riding, wearing jeans or riding breeches and closed toe shoes with a heel.  Students are required to wear helmets while riding and one will be supplied, if needed.

`

The Double L Ranch is home to Harvest Farms Therapeutic Riding Center, the only premier and nationally recognized NAHRA training center in Oklahoma. Ten percent (10%) of the proceeds will be donated to Harvest Farms to support the children’s riding program.

Meet the Trainer: Lisa Ann Yost

Lisa Ann Yost is a proven rider, winning multiple high points and world titles. All of her show horses were purchased with minimal training. Her training expertise transformed them into award winning show horses. Lisa has trained under some of the best in the business. She started her training with the McConnell family, Olympians from Colorado. She has had several trainers both in Colorado and Oklahoma. Lisa has trained and shown horses in numerous disciplines including English, Western, Trail, Showmanship, Halter, Carriage Driving, Dressage, Hunter-Jumpers and Speed Events including Barrels.

Lisa earned a degree in Equine Management from Rogers State University in 2000. After graduating, she spent the last ten years acquiring and developing a first rate training and boarding facility, called the Double L Ranch.
The ranch is home to some of the finest trained horses, who have won numerous awards and recognition in such events as the Paint, Pinto and Buckskin World Shows. A student riding a “school horse”, at the Double L Ranch, will learn faster by riding horses which are recognized winners in their respective disciplines.

Training Notebook:

Lisa’s training program emphasizes an overall understanding of the horse. The safety, the care, preparation, and proper riding techniques are all covered in a series of lessons which the student keeps in a training notebook. The notebook program combined with riding lessons provides the rider the knowledge and understanding of the horse to become a more efficient horseman.

Lesson Information:

We offer lessons in Western, English, Hunter/Jumper, Dressage, Trail, Halter, Showmanship, and Gymkhana (Speed Events), and now offering Therapeutic riding.

We offer well-trained, award winning school horses for all of our lessons.  We evaluate each student and match them with a school horse that is appropriate for individual riding abilities.  You are welcome to haul in your own horse for lessons.  Horses not boarded at the Double L Ranch must be pre-authorized and have a negative Coggins on file before scheduling lessons. (Horses deemed dangerous may be asked to leave before a lesson is completed.)

All riding levels are welcome.  We cater to your riding needs, beginners through advanced.  By offering private lessons and small group lessons, we can concentrate on each individual rider.

Lessons are normally scheduled Tuesday through Sunday.  We try to accommodate each student's schedule, offering ride times throughout the day.  (Weather and showing can sometimes alter ride time availability.)
